Derek M. Burnett, M.D.
Dr. Burnett brings to the Tucson community 30+ years of experience as a practicing physician. Following completion of his medical education at Hershey Medical College, Pennsylvania State University in 1986, he received training in General Surgery at the University of California / Davis, for two clinical years and one research year: he then went on to work in Emergency Medicine and Community Health. In 1994, he entered the Medical College of Virginia / Virginia Commonwealth University to begin training in Physical Medicine + Rehabilitation (PM+R). By 1998, he was Board Certified in PM+R. His interest in academic medicine peaked around the completion of this residency and he was granted Assistant Professor status with the same department until his departure in 2002. Remaining devoted to service, he returned to his hometown, St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands; where he established a successful solo private practice that he enjoyed until 2012. During the summer of 2012, he relocated to Arizona and has continued practicing Interventional Pain Medicine. In March of 2016, he began serving as a primary care physician in Correctional Medicine in and around Fresno County, California. He now returns to join Drs. Emil Annabi and Jimmy Arefieg of Pima Pain Centers as a Physiatrist with special interests in Interventional Pain Management and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. Dr. Burnett’s avocational interests include, but are not limited to: international travel, aviation, cooking, golf, music, theatre, martial arts, hunting, fishing, scuba diving, boating, motorcycling and working out in the gym.
